This safari tour visits two of the Rift Valley lakes and the classic Masai Mara. Activities include game drives in Lake Nakuru National Park and the Masai Mara National Reserve and also a boat safari on Lake Naivasha. There will be plenty of opportunities to track down all the Big Five, see the big five in their natural environment, spot hundreds of species of birds, and watch big cats patrol the savannah plains!
The Mara and Lakes safari offer the best of Kenya’s wildlife and iconic landscapes with plenty of time to explore the Great Lakes of the Rift Valley and the famous Masai Mara reserve all in one trip. This safari also visits the savannah of the Maasai Mara, one of Africa’s prime wildlife destinations, where you can experience close encounters with the Big Five. The safari runs all year round and we take custom dates for couples or small groups who want to create their holiday in Kenya.
Depart Nairobi early morning and later descend to the floor of the Great Rift Valley, for Lake Baringo [lunch en route] arriving in the afternoon. Lake Baringo is a fresh water lake which supports a great variety of birds as well as hippos and crocodiles. Indeed, the lake is reputed to be the bird-watching center of Kenya.
Early in the morning we head south via Lake Bogoria, which is a shallow soda Lake with a beautiful scenery and also home to a sizable number of flamingos and other species of birds. The highlight however is the boiling hot springs and geyser, which also contributes to the beauty of the lake. After lunch we proceed to Lake Nakuru - another shallow soda lake that is described as an ornithologist paradise and one of the world’s most magnificent sights. Lake Nakuru is a rhino sanctuary and also harbors lions, warthog, waterbuck, buffalo, hippo and many other animals.
After breakfast we head further south to Maasai Mara. You will arrive in good time for check in and lunch.
For these 2 days we explore the Mara region which is packed with the big five and many varied wildlife. You will enjoy picnic lunches while in Maasai Mara.
After breakfast at the Lodge/Camp, enjoy game drive enroute as you embark on your return journey to Nairobi.
