14 Days Mount Kenya climbing & Safari is a combination of safaris in Kenya and a Mount Kenya climbing challenge. The safari will give you the chance to visit the best national parks in Kenya, namely: Masai Mara National Reserve, Lake Naivasha National park, Lake Nakuru National Park, and the Amboseli National Park.
Arrive at JKIA airport and are received by Diwaka Safari representative and transferred to your Nairobi Hotel. The reminder of the day at leisure.
Breakfast at the hotel. Embark on your journey to Aberdare’s drive via Karatina, you will arrive for lunch at the Lodge. Afternoon and night game viewing from the Lodge precincts where you will see animals coming for a drink in the nearby water hole.
Breakfast at the Lodge and proceed to the Northern frontier district via Isiolo to Samburu National Reserve. Arrive on time for lunch at the Lodge. Late afternoon game viewing drives. The reserve is rich in wildlife with fame for abundance in rare northern specialist species such as the Grevy Zebra, Somali Ostrich, Reticulated Giraffe, Gerenuk, and the Beisa Oryx (Also referred to as Samburu Special). The reserve is also popular with a minimum of 900 elephants. Large predators such as the Lion, Leopard, and Cheetah are an important attraction (Kamunyak, the Miracle Lioness that adapted the baby Oryx is a reserve resident). Wild dog sightings are also a common attraction to this unique protected area. Birdlife is abundant, with over 450 species recorded.
Early morning and afternoon game drive around the peaceful Samburu reserve, with various wildlife, e.g., gerenuk, Gravy’s zebra, Oryx, and reticulated giraffe, one can also see the famous lioness- kamunyak known for adopting Oryx calves.Option of a full day game drive with lunch box lunch can be organised.
Breakfast at the camp; afterwards drive to the base hotel. Relax as you prepare for the climb. Lunch at the base Hotel. Then drive to Sirimon Park gate (2600m). On completion of park entry formalities, begin a 3–4-hour hike through forest. Ascend 700m bypassing the bamboo, rosewood and heather zones to Old Moses camp. The forest and bamboo are home to hundreds of buffaloes, elephants, bushbucks and a plethora of bird species. Dinner and overnight at OLD MOSES CAMP (3300m)
Continue trekking along leading to the base of the high peaks. Today's trek is largely through the moorlands and the Mackinder Valley, with good views of the main peaks and a brief stopover for picnic lunch. Total walking time is approx. 7 hours gaining 900m in altitude.
Pre-dawn attempt of the summit starts at 0300hrs and you hike for about 3 hours up steep scree slopes and across rugged rocks up to Pt. Lenana (4985m), the hikers' summit. Then down through Lewis Glacier up to the Austrian hut to join to the Naromoru track and descend for 2 hours to Mackinder's camp for breakfast then have the rest of the day at leisure.
Leaving early, you gradually descend for 4-5 hours through the moorlands and the lower vertical bog up to the Met Station, from where you walk down on a wide dirt road leading to the Naromoru Park gate (2600m) where you meet our vehicle. Depart for the Rift Valley passing via Nyahururu with a brief stopover to catch a glimpse of the Thompson Fall, the highest water fall in Kenya. Arrive in Nakuru in time for lunch at the Camp in Lake Nakuru National Park. Late afternoon game viewing & bird watching drive.
After breakfast, check out and drive to Maasai Mara National Reserve via Narok Town to arrive for lunch at the Lodge or Camp. Late afternoon game viewing drive. Maasai Mara Game Reserve, so named to mean the “spotted plains” in the Maa language. This is home to the greatest concentration of large mammals and is widely recognized as Africa’s ultimate wildlife reserve. The park is the northern extension to the vast Serengeti-Mara ecosystem, famous for its annual migration of wildebeest, breathtaking sceneries, never-ending plains and the most abundant variety of wildlife remaining anywhere in the world. The landscape is made up of rolling savannahs dotted with patchy shrubs and bush thickets.
Spend a further full day of game watching with picnic lunch boxes. Wildlife is abundant in the Reserve with the gentle grasslands ensuring that animals are never out of sight. Birds are prolific including immigrants, 450 bird species have been recorded among them 57 birds of prey. Every year the Mara plays host to the world’s greatest natural spectacle; The Great Wildebeest Migration from the Serengeti. The big cats - lion, leopard, and cheetah. Dinner and overnight at.
Dinner & overnight at your Lodge
After breakfast, check out and drive back to Nairobi and transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your international flight back home.
